The Deltana Fair Exhibit Hall is looking for dedicated volunteers who desire to serve their community to fill division supervisory positions.
The supervisor position requires a solid commitment to:
- 2 hours pre-fair meeting for introductions, to acquaint with the position requirements & tasks, and help prepare the exhibit hall (Date TBD—May)
- Locating and committing your division judges (manager helps with this)
- Accepting and documenting exhibits on exhibit entry day (Tuesday, 7/16—nonperishables 10am-6pm, or Thursday 7/18—perishables 9am-2pm)
- 1 hour (4-5pm) Sunday, 7/24— for exhibitor pick-up

*This position requires sitting, standing, and walking on a concrete floor.
Division 1 – FFA & 4-H Animal
Entry Forms Due: 5pm Friday one week prior to Fair Weekend. Life stock delivery 5pm-7pm, Thursday of Fair Weekend.
* Livestock entered in Classes A-G cannot be entered in Class H or HH
Division 2 – FFA & 4-H Club Work
Entry Day: 5pm Friday one week prior to Fair Weekend.
Division 3 – Education
Entry Day: Tuesday prior to Fair Weekend, 10am-6pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor.
* NO workbooks or tests, please. Creative assignments only, except for preschool (ages 0-5 years).
* All works must be done by the student during the immediate past school year. Projects not assigned or given credit in school are to be entered in open divisions such as fine arts, creative crafts, photography and needlework.
* Group exhibits [2 or more people] are welcome. Exhibit tag should state that it is a group project and list names of all participants.
* Prepare each exhibit with a cover, mat, backing, or frame without glass — whatever is appropriate. Show that some thought went into the preparation.
* If exhibit does not comply above requirements, it will have points deducted during judging
Division 4 – Foods – Unit 1 – Culinary
Entry Day: Thursday prior to Fair Weekend, 9am-2pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor.
* Recipe must accompany entry and should be written or typed with clear and legible instructions on a recipe card. This is necessary should your recipe receive grand prize. Grand prize recipes will be published for the cookbook.
* The Grand Champion entries will be reserved for publishing in the future to be inserted into the Deltana Fair cookbook.
* Miniature-sized entries will be accepted in lieu of large full-recipe entries. The recipe submitted should be for the regular-sized portion. *Commercial/Professional entries will be judged separately. Please write ‘commercial’ on exhibit tag near ID number. See general rules. *Please specify hot or cold dish on your exhibit tag so the entry can be presented to the judges correctly.

Division 5 – Flowers
Entry Day: Thursday prior to Fair Weekend, 9am-2pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor
* Plants must have been grown in the container exhibited in Classes B, D and E.
* Cut flowers [Class A – Lot 1, Class F – Lots 1,2,3] will be displayed in containers available at the Exhibit Hall.
* Commercial/Professional entries are encouraged to enter and will be judged separately from the amateurs. Please write ‘Commercial’ on exhibit tag near ID number. See general rules.
Division 6 – Vegetables & Fruits
Entry Day: Thursday prior to Fair Weekend, 9am-2pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor
*Commercial/Professional entries are encouraged to enter and will be judged separately from the amateurs. Please write ‘Commercial’ on exhibit tag above ID number. See general rules.
* In addition to the General Rules and Regulations section of this manual, all exhibitors shall conform to the guidelines in Publication No. 300B-00039 ‘Vegetables – Selection and Preparation for Display’ available from the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service for $1. Entries must be Alaska grown.
* Vegetables should be fresh, clean, and uniform in size, shape, maturity, smoothness, and coloration, indicating trueness of variety. Select specimens of the size most commonly sold in commercial markets.
* Root crops should have their tops trimmed to one inch in length, and all lateral roots removed leaving a single tap root for display.
* Varieties should be indicated on the exhibit tag. Please enter the correct number of specimens as indicated. Greenhouse exhibits shall be registered as such and be judged separately from outdoor grown.*Note: No poisonous/inedible berries or mushrooms/toadstools
Division 7 – Crops
Entry Day: Thursday prior to Fair Weekend, 9am-2pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor
* Each variety must be indicated on the exhibit tag. Individual lots must contain three entries. Entries will be judged according to their quality as a commercial product.
* In addition to the General Rules and Regulations, any variety of Alaska grown cereals, grasses, legumes, and oilseeds may be exhibited. Crop exhibits are encouraged even though they may not be fully matured at Fair time. Bulk exhibits of cereal grains, oilseeds and grass seed are encouraged. They should be clean and free of foreign matter, cracked, unsound, and discolored
Division 8 – Fine Arts
Entry Day: Tuesday prior to Fair Weekend, 10am-6pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor
* Each entry must be ready for hanging. Provide hangers on back of exhibit, if needed. NO GLASS! The Deltana Fair Association will not be held liable for damage to entries inadequately prepared for hanging or display.
*Identifying markings must be covered [Post-it notes work well to cover without damage.
*Please submit original work. Color book pages and color-in art ARE NOT accepted in this division but may be submitted for display and will be given a participation ribbon.
*Commercial/Professional entries are encouraged and will be judged separately from amateur entries. Please write ‘Commercial’ on exhibit tag near ID number. See general rules.
*Exhibits that are still “a work in progress”, please, make a notation on exhibit tag.
Division 9 – Creative Crafts
Entry Day: Tuesday prior to Fair Weekend, 10am-6pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor. Please see Exhibit Guide for correct hanging of artwork. Exhibitors must indicate on exhibit tag if item is made from a kit.
* Identifying markings must be covered [Post-it notes work well]
* No signature cards, previous history, price tags, names, phone numbers, advertisements, etc., of any sort will be displayed on any object in this division.
* Commercial/Professional entries are encouraged and will be judged separately from amateur entries. Please write ‘Commercial’ on exhibit tag near ID number. See general rules.
* Secure display will be available for small valuable entries.
Division 10 – Hobby Show
Entry Day: Tuesday prior to Fair Weekend 10am-6pm
* Lego’s must be secured to poster board or in a box tray. Handi-Tak secures well. No premiums will be given to non-secure Lego set displays. Hanging exhibits must be prepared for hanging prior to entering. Collections must be ready for display.
* Entries of great value will be judged but may not be displayed due to lack of security, they should be accompanied by a clear photograph which will be displayed with the award. These high value entries must be picked up when judging is completed. Judging will be based on quality rather than quantity, originality and attractiveness of the display, and on the items in the collection.
* Individual items need to be securely attached to the display. Individual items in collections need not be made by the exhibitor.
* Collections will be partially judged on how they are displayed.
* All entries must be able to be moved by the fair workers securely and without disruption to the exhibit.
Division 11 – Photography
Entry Day: Tuesday prior to Fair Weekend, 10am-6pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor.
* Photo may be no larger than 11 X 14.
* All entries are to be without frames or glass. Entries may be mounted on foam core. No larger than 11 X 14 (No larger than 36″ long for panoramic only). Photos will be temporarily mounted on foam core by superintendent after entries are received, if not already mounted. Deltana Fair is not responsible for damage to photographs entered.
* Photo stories may be mounted onto Poster Board or Foam Core
* No name can be visible on the photograph.
* There will be no advertisement or selling of photos.
* All entries should be the work of the person making the entry.
* Photos will be judged on artistic and photographic quality: subject matter considered.
* All judging decisions are final.
Division 12 – Needlework
Entry Day: Tuesday prior to Fair Weekend, 10am-6pm
* Only one entry per lot for each exhibitor
* All entries must be clean and odor-free. Articles may be entered in clear plastic bags for their protection if desired, but will be removed for judging and display if necessary.
* Exhibitors must indicate on exhibit tag if item was made from a kit. Kit instructions should be included to assist in judging.
* Articles for exhibit should not have been exhibited at Deltana Fair previously, but may have been made at any prior time.
* Items will be judged on appearance (clean, free of pulling, pressing, blocking, inside, outside and reverse workmanship, etc.), uniformity of stitch, difficulty of project and time spent.
* No signature cards, previous history, price tags, names, phone numbers, advertisements, etc., of any sort will be displayed on any amateur object in this division.
* Group projects should be marked as such on exhibit tag. [Write ‘Group’ near ID number.]
* Commercial/Professional entries are encouraged and will be judged separately from amateur entries. Please write “Commercial”’ on exhibit tag near ID number. Commercial exhibitors may put a small tag [business card size 3-1/2” x 2”] on entry after judging is completed. See general rules.
